The First Trust Bank award winning Student+ Account is designed to make it easy for you to manage your finances in college, offering you peace of mind so that it doesn't interfere with your studies, or your socialising.
This account is available as a sole account to new and existing customers aged 18 years and over who are a full time third-level university or college student or a student nurse. Students on full time vocational courses at regional colleges may also apply.
If you are studying for a Medicine or Dentistry degree, or will be attending a professional course to train as a lawyer, we offer a tailored Medical & Dental package and Postgraduate Law Package which may suit you.
Features and benefits
No monthly maintenance fees during the term of the account
An interest-free overdraft of up to £1,850 (subject to status)
The first £1,850 of any arranged overdraft (subject to status) will be interest-fee (0% EAR variable). This is not an automatic overdraft and you must apply if you require one.
There is no fee for arranging or using the agreed overdraft whilst you hold the Student+ Account.

No commission charge for foreign currency
Easy access to your money with our Visa debit card
A Visa debit card allows you to make purchases and withdraw money from your bank account worldwide*. You can use your card in shops, at cash machines and online wherever Visa Debit is accepted. You can also check your balance at any First Trust Bank or AIB cash machine.

Bank securely at a time and place that suits you
First Trust Bank Online, Mobile or Phoneline Banking puts you in control of your finances. Many of the things you do at the branch counter you can do sitting at home with Online Banking - checking your balances, paying your bills, transferring money, ordering a statement and carrying out a cheque search.

Text Alerts to help you manage your account
An Account Alert is a text message notification we’ll send you to help you manage your Current Account.
If we hold an up to date mobile telephone number, we will send you a text message to help you avoid charges and keep your account in credit or within any agreed overdraft.
If you are registered for Online Services, you can also register for Balance Alerts which is a text message we can send you when your account has dropped below an amount that you set.

Student Visa Credit Card or Student Loan facility available to help you budget during term time (subject to eligibility)
We have a range of flexible finance options in addition to an overdraft to help you manage the cost of investing in education throughout the full university cycle.

Seamlessly move into the Graduate Account when you finish your studies
Switch your student banking to us 'stress-free' in seven working days
Switch your current account from one bank or building society to another in a simple, reliable and stress-free way. It will only take seven working days. As your new current account provider we offer the following guarantee:
- The service is free to use and you can choose and agree your switch date with us.
- We will take care of moving all your payments going out (for example, your Direct Debits and standing orders) and those coming in (for example, your salary).
- If you have money in your old account, we will transfer it to your new account on your switch date.
- We will arrange for payments accidentally made to your old account to be automatically redirected to your new account. We will also contact the sender and give them your new account details.
- If there are any issues in making the switch, we will contact you before your switch date.
- If anything goes wrong with the switch, as soon as we are told, we will refund any interest (paid or lost) and charges made on either your old or new current accounts as a result of this failure.

To open a new Student+ Account, simply call into your local First Trust Bank branch or call us on 0345 6005 925† if you would prefer to make an appointment.
You will need to bring your UK university or college issued student identity card or proof of your acceptance to university or college (such as a UCAS letter) confirm you are eligible to open the account.
If you hold an existing Current or Student 12-18 Account with us, you can swap to the Student+ Account without opening a new account.
We will need to see proof of your identity and address (such as your passport, driving licence and a gas or electricity bill). If you are not sure what proof we accept, click here or speak to a customer service adviser on 0345 6005 925†.

Information about borrowings
As a responsible lender, we will only lend you money after assessing whether you are able to make the repayments.
We will only issue credit facilities depending on your financial circumstances. You must be aged 18 or over. Please ask us for full details of terms and conditions and written quotations.
We adhere to the Standards of Lending Practice which sets standards for banks when dealing with lending and overdrafts for personal customers. You can get more information on the Standards from any branch or at www.lendingstandardsboard.org.uk. Under the Standards we have also developed a Statement of Lender and Borrower Responsibilities to ensure that the relationship works well for both of us.
